What stays on your device

Your puzzle progress, streaks, best scores and settings are kept in your own browser's storage, on this device only. We don't have accounts yet, so we hold no name, email or password for you. Clearing your browser data clears them.

What we count, and why

To make the games better we count what happens in them: a page opened, a puzzle started or finished, a hint used, how long a page took to load, which page or link you arrived from, and a one-tap rating if you give one. Each event carries an anonymous id made up on your device (not your name, email or phone number), a visit id, your local date, the page address (with any room code removed), and the kind of device, operating system, browser and browser language. Moves inside a game (each tile or letter) stay on your device; only totals are sent.

Who receives it

The counts go to PostHog, our analytics service, on its EU servers (Frankfurt). Like any website, PostHog sees the internet (IP) address your browser connects from; we don't use it to identify you. The site and the online-play rooms are hosted by Cloudflare. When you play a friend online, the room holds the names you each typed and the game's moves while you play; an empty room is deleted after ten minutes. We don't sell data, and there are no advertising trackers on Suvi.

Your choice

In the UK and Europe we ask first: choose OK or Essentials only on the bar at the bottom of the page. Everywhere else counting is on and you can switch it off here at any time. With counting off, events are still tallied but never linked together or to an id, and you are never part of an experiment.

Experiments

We test changes (for example the look of the site, or the order of games on the home page) to see what players prefer. A test only changes settings inside fixed limits, never prices and never the fairness rules, only includes people who have said yes to counting, and 5% of players are always left out of every test so we can measure honestly.

Online play

Playing a friend online asks once for your date of birth. Only the year is kept, on your device; online play isn't open to under-13s, and that choice is remembered on the device (with a small cookie). Rooms are invite-only and there is no typed chat.

Advertising

There are no ads on Suvi while it is new. If we add them later, they will only ever be short ones you choose to watch for a hint or another go, and this page will say so first.

Accounts and email, later

When accounts arrive you will be able to sign in with an email link, Google or Apple, to keep your streaks on every device. The daily-puzzle email and marketing will be two separate tick-boxes, and every email will have a one-click unsubscribe.
