About Bowling on Suvi
Bowling on Suvi is ten-pin bowling drawn for a phone held upright: a maple lane seen from behind the bowler, with the arrows and dots to aim by, gutters either side and ten white pins at the far end. Slide the ball to where you want to stand, pick straight or a hook, then pull back and let go. The camera rolls down the lane with the ball, so you see the pins scatter up close. Hit the pocket just beside the head pin for a strike; leave pins standing and you get a second ball at what's left. The scorecard counts the real way: a strike scores ten plus your next two balls, a spare ten plus your next one, 300 is a perfect game. Play the computer at Easy, Medium or Hard, a friend on one phone, or a friend online by link.
How to play
- Drag the ball left or right along the foul line to choose where you stand.
- Tap the spin button to roll it straight, or to hook it left or right on the far half of the lane.
- Press on the lane, pull back towards you and let go: the ball goes the opposite way to your pull, and a longer pull rolls it faster.
- Knock all ten down with your first ball for a strike, or with both balls for a spare. Each player bowls a whole frame, then the other.
- After ten frames the higher score wins. The tenth frame gives bonus balls for a strike or a spare.
Controls
On a phone or tablet: Drag the ball to move it, tap the spin button to change the hook, then pull back on the lane and let go to bowl.
On a desktop: Drag the ball to move it and drag back on the lane to bowl, or use the keys: left and right move the ball, A and D aim, up and down set the power, S changes the spin and Space bowls. H asks for a hint.
Tips
- Aim for the pocket: just right of the head pin with a left hook, just left of it with a right hook. A ball straight into the head pin leaves splits.
- A hook that curves into the pocket strikes more often than a straight ball, because it drives through the pins at an angle.
- For a single pin on the right, stand on the left and roll straight across the lane at it, and the other way round.
- Look at the arrows, not the pins: the aiming line runs to just past them, and a small change there is a big change at the pins.
- Stuck? A hint moves the ball to where the Hard computer would stand and shows its line.
Questions
- How is bowling scored?
- Each frame scores the pins you knock down. A strike (all ten with the first ball) scores ten plus your next two balls; a spare (all ten with two balls) scores ten plus your next ball. The tenth frame gives one or two bonus balls for a strike or spare, so a perfect game of twelve strikes is 300.
- What happens to the pins after my first ball?
- The fallen pins are swept away and the ones still standing are set back on their spots for your second ball, so you can see exactly what you need to pick up.
- How good is the computer?
- Easy bowls for fun and averages about 100; Medium bowls like a league player, about 150; Hard finds the pocket and picks up most spares, about 200. All three miss like people do, so every game is different.
- Can two people play on one phone?
- Yes. Choose Two players: each of you bowls a whole frame, then passes the phone, and the scorecards keep both games.
- Can I play a friend online?
- Yes: choose With a friend and send the link. You each bowl on your own phone and see the other ball roll.
- Is it free?
- Yes, every game, with no account and nothing to download.
