Hearts

The classic card game against three computer players. Duck the hearts, dodge the Q♠.

About Hearts on Suvi

Hearts is the trick-taking card game where you want to win nothing. Every heart you take costs a point and the queen of spades costs thirteen, so the game is in ducking under the winning card, passing away your dangerous cards and getting rid of the queen at the right moment. Take all of them, though, and you shoot the moon: everyone else gets the 26 instead. On Suvi you play against three computer players at Easy, Medium or Hard. Hard counts cards, notices who has run out of a suit and plays the spades carefully. There's a daily game whose hands are dealt the same for everyone, and new games whenever you like. The first to 100 ends it, and the lowest score wins.

How to play

  1. Each hand, pick three cards to pass: to the left, then the right, then across; every fourth hand nobody passes.
  2. The 2♣ leads the first trick. Follow the suit that was led if you can; the highest card of that suit takes the trick.
  3. If you can't follow, play anything (but no hearts or Q♠ on the very first trick). Hearts can't be led until one has been played.
  4. Each heart you take is 1 point and the Q♠ is 13. Take all 26 and you shoot the moon: 26 to everyone else instead.
  5. When someone reaches 100, the game ends and the lowest score wins.

Controls

On a phone or tablet: Your hand is fanned along the bottom: the cards you can play are lifted and outlined, so just tap one. To pass, tap three cards and then the Pass button. Scores shows the full table.

On a desktop: Click a lifted card to play it. The left and right arrow keys move along your hand and Enter plays (or picks, when passing). P passes, H is a hint and S shows the scores.

Tips

Questions

Is Hearts free?
Yes. The daily game and as many new games as you like are free, with no account and nothing to download.
What is shooting the moon?
Taking all 13 hearts and the Q♠ in one hand. Instead of 26 points for you, everyone else gets 26. If that would end the game with someone else winning, you take 26 off your own score instead.
Can I play hearts on the first trick?
Not unless you have nothing else. On the first trick nobody may play a heart or the Q♠ if they have another card, the way most people play online. After that, discard what you like when you can't follow suit.
How good are the computer players?
Easy plays any card it's allowed to. Medium ducks under the winning card and passes its dangerous cards. Hard does all that and counts cards: it knows which cards are still out and who has run out of a suit. You can change the level in the settings at any time.
What's the daily game?
A game whose hands are dealt the same for everyone that day, so you can compare how you did. It counts towards your streak when it ends, whatever your place.
Can I play with friends online?
Not yet: for now Hearts is you against three computer players.
