About Mines on Suvi
Mines is the minefield puzzle you remember, built for a phone and for grown-ups who hate guessing. Every board on Suvi is run through our solver before you see it: from the marked start square, logic alone will clear it. There's a daily board everyone shares, three sizes, a flag mode so your thumb never has to long-press, and one second chance per board if you slip, free while Suvi is new. No banners, no download.
How to play
- Tap the starred square to start: it always opens a safe area.
- Each number tells you how many of its eight neighbours hide a mine. Use the numbers to work out which squares are safe and which are mines.
- Tap a hidden square to reveal it. Switch on Flag mode (or press and hold) to mark a square you think is a mine.
- Tap a number that already has the right number of flags around it to open the rest of its neighbours at once.
- Reveal every safe square to clear the board. Flags are optional: the board is done when the safe squares are open.
Controls
On a phone or tablet: Tap to reveal. Tap the Flag button to switch to flag mode, then tap squares to flag them; or press and hold a square. Tap a satisfied number to open around it.
On a desktop: Click to reveal, right-click to flag, click a satisfied number to open around it.
Tips
- A 1 next to exactly one hidden square means that square is a mine. Flag it, then see what the flag satisfies.
- When two numbers share hidden squares, subtract: what one needs that the other doesn't must be in the squares they don't share.
- Work the edges and corners first: fewer neighbours, fewer possibilities.
- You never have to guess on Suvi. If you feel stuck, there's a logical move somewhere; look for the 1-2-1 and 1-2-2-1 patterns along straight walls.

Questions
- Is it really solvable without guessing?
- Yes. Every board is checked by our solver before it's shown, starting from the marked square. If a layout needs a guess, we throw it away and make another.
- Why is there a starred square?
- It's the safe start. Classic versions place the mines after your first click, which means everyone gets a different board. Suvi fixes the board for the day, so the start has to be marked.
- Is there a timer and a leaderboard?
- There's a timer and your own best times. Friend leagues are coming with accounts.
- What happens if I hit a mine?
- Once per board you can take a second chance, free while Suvi is new, which puts that mine back under a flag. Otherwise the board is revealed and you can try the same board again.
- Does it work on a phone?
- Yes. Easy and medium boards fit a phone screen; the hard board scrolls. Flag mode means you never have to press and hold if you don't want to.
