About Stitch on Suvi
Stitch is cross-stitch by numbers for grown-ups. Every day there's a new pattern on a square of aida: a centre motif, a border and a short sampler word, in five to nine thread colours with plain names like Sage, Rosehip and Ink. Pick a thread and stitch every square with its number; each one becomes a proper little cross of thread, not a coloured pixel. Pinch to zoom on a phone, use the wheel and drag on a desktop. There's no timer pressure and no way to fail. The patterns are real, too: open the chart and print it, with a symbol for every stitch, a colour key, stitch counts and the finished size on 14-count aida, so you can stitch the same piece with a needle. Everyone gets the same daily pattern, and a bigger 40×40 piece arrives every weekend.
How to play
- Pick a thread from the bar under the cloth. Each thread has a number, and the squares that need it show the same number.
- Tap a square to stitch it, or drag along a row to stitch several at once. Only squares with your thread's number take a stitch, so a slip never spoils the piece.
- Pinch with two fingers to zoom in and move around; one finger always stitches. Highlight lights up every square still waiting for your thread.
- Finish every thread and your piece goes in a hoop. Open Chart to print the pattern and stitch it for real.
Controls
On a phone or tablet: One finger taps or drags to stitch; two fingers pinch to zoom and move around. Tap a thread to pick it. The − ⤢ + buttons zoom out, fit the whole piece and zoom in.
On a desktop: Click or drag to stitch. The mouse wheel zooms; hold Space and drag, or drag with the right button, to move around. Keys 1–9 pick a thread, H highlights, + and − zoom, 0 fits the piece.
Tips
- Stitch the small details first (the dark outline threads), then sweep the background thread along the rows in long drags.
- Turn on Highlight when a thread has only a few squares left: they light up so you can't miss them.
- Zoom in until a square is about the size of your fingertip; a drag along a row is much quicker than tapping.
- Stitching it for real? Print the chart as Symbols only to save ink, and start from the centre arrows.

Questions
- Is it the same pattern for everyone?
- Yes. Each day has one pattern, the same for every player in your time zone, made by our own pattern composer from a library of original motifs. A bigger 40×40 piece comes out each weekend.
- Can I print the pattern and stitch it for real?
- Yes. Tap Chart for a printable chart: a symbol for every stitch, bold lines every ten, a colour key with stitch counts and approximate thread lengths, and the finished size on 14-count aida.
- Which thread colours do I buy?
- The chart names each colour descriptively (Sage, Rosehip, Ink) rather than with a maker's shade number. Match them by eye with any stranded cotton you like; the key shows each colour as a swatch.
- Can I make a mistake?
- No. A square only takes the thread with its number, so a stray tap does nothing. There's no fail state, and the timer only runs while you're stitching.
- Is it free?
- Yes. The daily pattern, the weekend piece and two extra patterns a day are free. Themed pattern packs will open with gems later. Fill, which stitches every square of one thread for you, is free once a day, and while Suvi is new a few more are on us, with no ad to watch.
