About Chess Puzzle on Suvi
One chess position a day, and one job: find the move that wins by force. Most days it's a mate in two; some days a mate in one to warm up, some a mate in three to make you earn it. The puzzle is the same for everyone in your time zone, the board plays the defender's best reply for you, and a wrong move just bounces back so you can try again (the puzzle records it, your streak doesn't mind). Tap a piece and tap where it goes, or drag. Every puzzle is made and re-checked by our own chess engine, so the winning move is always unique. You don't need to know any openings: it's all about seeing the tactic.
How to play
- You're the side shown under the board. Find the move that forces checkmate in the number of moves given.
- Tap a piece to see where it can go, then tap the square. Drag works too.
- The board answers with the defender's best reply. Keep going until it's mate.
- A wrong move bounces back. Hint shows which piece to move.
Controls
On a phone or tablet: Tap a piece, then tap its square. Tap the piece again to cancel. Drag also works.
On a desktop: Click or drag the pieces. Keyboard: type a move like e2e4 or Qh5.
Tips
- Checks first: in a mating puzzle the winning move is usually a check, a capture or a quiet move that takes away the king's last squares.
- Look at the king's escape squares before you look at your pieces.
- A sacrifice that looks mad is the point on days the puzzle feels too hard.
- Mate in two means your second move delivers mate against any defence, so check every reply, not just the obvious one.

Questions
- Is it the same puzzle for everyone?
- Yes, one position per day for everyone in your time zone. Compare times with friends, the share card never shows the answer.
- Do I need to be good at chess?
- You need to know how the pieces move. Mate-in-one days are for beginners; the mate-in-three days will stretch club players.
- Where do the puzzles come from?
- Our own engine generates positions and verifies that exactly one first move forces mate in the stated number of moves. Nothing is copied from books or databases.
- What if I play a different winning move?
- If it also forces mate in the same number of moves it counts. Puzzles are checked so that's rare, but the engine judges, not a list.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Today's puzzle is free with no account. While Suvi is new, every past puzzle is open too, and after your free hint each day a few more are on us, with no ad to watch.
