About Daily Crossword on Suvi
This is today's Easy Daily Crossword, an 11 by 11 grid of everyday words with plain clues, drawn for easier reading: bigger letters and clue numbers in the squares, strong lines, the clue you're working on in large type above the keyboard, and bigger keys. On a phone the grid fills the width of the screen; on a tablet or a computer it grows bigger, with the clue lists in large type beside it. It's the same puzzle as the Easy crossword on the main page, so your progress carries over from one to the other. Tap Bigger text at the top of the page and every other word on the page gets bigger too. If you'd rather use paper, a large-print crossword is on the Printables page every day.
How to play
- Pick Easy, Medium or Hard. Tap a square, then type: you move along the word as you go.
- Tap the square again to switch between Across and Down. The clue for the word you're on sits above the keyboard, with the length in brackets.
- Use the arrows by the clue (or Tab) to move to the next clue; tap any clue in the list to jump to it.
- Check shows wrong squares; Reveal fills one in. When every square is right, the timer stops and your streak grows.
Controls
On a phone or tablet: Tap a square and type on the big on-screen keyboard; tap it again to change direction; the arrows by the clue move to the next clue.
On a desktop: Click a square and type. Arrow keys move, Tab goes to the next clue, Backspace clears, Space switches direction. The clue list sits beside the grid.
Tips
- Start with the fill-in-the-blank clues: they're usually the quickest way in.
- Every other letter of a word is shared with another clue, so one sure answer opens up several more.
- Plural clue, plural answer; past-tense clue, past-tense answer.
- Stuck on Hard? Today's Easy uses the same everyday words with plainer clues: a good warm-up.
Questions
- Is it the same crossword for everyone?
- Yes. Each day has one Easy, one Medium and one Hard crossword, the same for every player, new at midnight in your time zone.
- How hard is Hard?
- The words are still ones you know; the clues ask more of you, and the grid is bigger. Most people take 10 to 25 minutes on Easy and longer on Hard.
- Is it a cryptic crossword?
- No. Every clue is a straight clue: a definition, a synonym or a fill-in-the-blank. No anagrams or wordplay to decode.
- Why are some squares in only one word?
- It's the quick-crossword style: about half the letters of each word cross another word, so the grid is open and the clues do the work.
- Where do the clues come from?
- Our own clue bank, written for everyday words and checked for anything unfair, rude or obscure before any grid goes out. If a clue seems wrong, tell us from the About page and we'll fix it.
- Can I print it?
- Yes. Each day's crossword is a free PDF on the Printables page: Easy, Medium and Hard, a large-print Easy with big squares and big clues, and the answers on the last page. Free to print at home, in class, in a library or a care home.
