About Word Guess on Suvi
Word Guess is a daily five-letter word puzzle. Type any real word and every letter gets a mark: a solid teal tile with a dot when the letter is in the right place, an amber ring when it's in the word but somewhere else, and a pale tile with the letter struck through when it isn't in the word at all. Use what you learn to close in on the answer within six tries. The marks never rely on color alone, and there's a color-blind palette in Settings. Everyone gets the same word each day, changing at midnight where you are, and the share card shows how you got there without giving the word away. Finished today's? Play again for practice words, as many as you like; they never touch your streak. Every answer is an everyday word, spelled the same in British and American English.
How to play
- Type a five-letter word on the keyboard and press Enter. It must be a real word.
- Read the marks: a solid tile with a dot is the right letter in the right place, a ring means the letter is in the word but elsewhere, and a struck-through letter isn't in the word.
- The keyboard keeps the same marks, so you can see which letters are left. Use them for your next guess.
- Find the word within six guesses. Your score, time and streak go on the share card, never the word.
- Want more? Play again gives you a fresh practice word straight away, as many times as you like.
Controls
On a phone or tablet: Tap the letters on the on-screen keyboard, the delete key to take one back, and Enter to play your guess. Reveal a letter sits above the board.
On a desktop: Type on your own keyboard: letters, Backspace to take one back, Enter to play the guess. You can click the on-screen keys too; they show what you've found.
Tips
- Start with a word that uses five different common letters, such as one with A, E, R, S or T, to learn the most from your first go.
- A ring tells you two things: the letter is in the word, and not in that spot. Move it somewhere new next time.
- Letters can repeat. If you're stuck with three letters found, try a double letter, as in APPLE or GRASS.
- Struck-through letters are out: the keyboard fades them, so build your next guess from what's left.
- Stuck on the last tries? Reveal a letter shows one letter in its right place, once a day.
Questions
- Is there a new word every day?
- Yes. There is one Word Guess a day, the same word for every player, and it changes at midnight in your own time zone. Past days are in the archive.
- Can I play more than one a day?
- Yes. After today's word, Play again gives you practice words, as many as you like. They're picked from the same list of everyday words and don't count towards your streak.
- What do the marks mean?
- A solid teal tile with a dot: the right letter in the right place. An amber ring: the letter is in the word but in another place. A pale tile with the letter struck through: not in the word. Each mark has its own shape, so you never need to tell colors apart.
- What is Hard mode?
- Switch it on in Settings before your first guess. Any letter you've found must then be used in your later guesses: letters in the right place stay there, and ringed letters must appear somewhere. The share card says when you played on Hard.
- How does Reveal a letter work?
- Once a day it shows one letter of the answer in its right place, the first place you haven't found yet. While Suvi is new it's free, with no ad to watch. The share card says when you used it.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Word Guess is free to play with no account and no download. It runs in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
