About Word Wheel on Suvi
Word Wheel is the nine-letter word puzzle from the back pages of British newspapers, made for your phone. Nine letters sit on a wheel: one in the center and eight around it. Make as many words of four letters or more as you can, each one using the center letter, and each letter on the wheel only once. Somewhere in there is a word that uses all nine. Good, Very good and Excellent come from the number of words you find, so you can stop at a coffee break or keep going for the lot. Our list is everyday words, and rarer real words count too as bonus words; nothing rude, no names. Everyone gets the same wheel each day, and the full list of answers appears the next day under Yesterday.
How to play
- Tap the letters on the wheel to spell a word of four letters or more. Every word must use the center letter.
- Each letter on the wheel can be used once in a word. Tap Enter to add it; Delete takes the last letter back.
- Find enough words to reach Good, then keep going for Very good and Excellent. One word uses all nine letters.
- Stuck? Shuffle moves the outer letters round for a fresh look, and Hint gives you the length and first letter of a word you haven't found.
- Come back tomorrow for a new wheel, and tap Yesterday to see every word on yesterday's list.
Controls
On a phone or tablet: Tap letters on the wheel to spell a word, then Enter. Delete, Shuffle and Hint sit under the wheel.
On a desktop: Type the word and press Enter, or click the letters. Backspace takes a letter back, Space shuffles, Esc clears.
Tips
- Start with the center letter plus an S, an E or an ING at the end: endings turn one word into two or three.
- Look for small words inside long ones. If you spot the nine-letter word, the shorter words often fall out of it.
- Shuffle is free. A new order breaks the spell of the old one and shows you pairs you missed.
- Try the center letter in different places: at the start, in the middle and at the end of a word.
- Rarer words count as bonus words, so a word you're not sure about is always worth a try.
Questions
- Is the Word Wheel the same for everyone?
- Yes. There is one wheel a day, the same for every player, and it changes at midnight in your time zone. The share card shows how far you got without giving any words away.
- Which words count?
- Any real English word of four letters or more that uses the center letter, with each letter on the wheel used once. Our list is everyday words; rarer real words are accepted as bonus words and count towards your total. Names and rude words are never in.
- What are Good, Very good and Excellent?
- Targets set by the size of the day's list: roughly a third of the words for Good, half for Very good and seven in ten for Excellent. Reaching Good counts the day for your streak.
- Where are the answers?
- The full list for each day appears the next day: tap Yesterday at the top of the game. Words you found are ticked, and you'll see the nine-letter word if it got away.
- How do hints work?
- A hint gives the length and first letter of a word you haven't found; another hint on the same word shows one more letter. Your first hint each day is free, and while Suvi is new more are on us, with no ad to watch.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Word Wheel is free with no account and no download, and it runs in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
