Suvi

2048

Slide the tiles, join two the same, reach 2048. Today's board is the same for everyone.

About 2048 on Suvi

2048 is the sliding number puzzle on a four-by-four board. Every swipe moves every tile as far as it goes, and two tiles with the same number join into one with their sum: two 2s make a 4, two 4s make an 8, all the way up to 2048. After each move a new tile appears, usually a 2 and now and then a 4, and the game ends when the board is full and nothing can join. On Suvi the daily board gives everyone the same tiles in the same places for the same moves, with a score to beat set by our own simple player; Endless is a new random board every time. You get one undo per game. Suvi's version has its own look: a slate tray with rounded tiles that step from frost and mint through blue and violet to a ringed 2048.

How to play

  1. Swipe up, down, left or right (or press an arrow key). Every tile slides as far as it can that way.
  2. Two tiles with the same number that meet join into one, worth their sum, and that sum is added to your score.
  3. After every move a new tile appears: a 2, or a 4 about one time in ten.
  4. Make the 2048 tile to win, then keep going for a bigger one if you like.
  5. The game ends when the board is full and no two tiles next to each other match.

Controls

On a phone or tablet: Swipe on the board in any of the four directions; one swipe is one move, and the page won't scroll while your finger is on the board. Undo is under the board.

On a desktop: Arrow keys or W, A, S and D move the tiles; you can also drag on the board with the mouse. U or Ctrl+Z is the undo.

Tips

Questions

Is 2048 free?
Yes. The daily board and Endless are free, with no account and nothing to download.
Is the daily board the same for everyone?
Yes. Everyone starts with the same two tiles, and each new tile depends only on the day and how many moves have been made, so the same moves give everyone the same board. That makes the scores fair to compare.
What is the score to beat?
It's what our own simple computer player scores on today's board, rounded down to the hundred. It plays steadily but not cleverly, so a careful player can beat it.
Can I undo a move?
Once per game. In the daily it's free once a day; in Endless it's free while Suvi is new. An undo can't change which tile comes next: making the same move again brings the same tile.
What happens after I make 2048?
You get a small celebration and a choice: finish there, or keep going for 4096 and beyond. Your score keeps counting either way.
Can I play it on a computer?
Yes. It works with the arrow keys or W, A, S and D, and with the mouse, as well as by touch on a phone or tablet.
