About 2048 on Suvi
Endless is 2048 the way it has always been played: a fresh random board every time, one undo per game, and your best score kept on this device. Swipe or use the arrow keys, join two tiles the same, and see how far past 2048 you can go. The daily is the board everyone shares; this one is for beating yourself.
How to play
- Swipe up, down, left or right (or press an arrow key). Every tile slides as far as it can that way.
- Two tiles with the same number that meet join into one, worth their sum, and that sum is added to your score.
- After every move a new tile appears: a 2, or a 4 about one time in ten.
- Make the 2048 tile to win, then keep going for a bigger one if you like.
- The game ends when the board is full and no two tiles next to each other match.
Controls
On a phone or tablet: Swipe on the board in any of the four directions; one swipe is one move, and the page won't scroll while your finger is on the board. Undo is under the board.
On a desktop: Arrow keys or W, A, S and D move the tiles; you can also drag on the board with the mouse. U or Ctrl+Z is the undo.
Tips
- Pick a corner and keep your biggest tile in it; build the next biggest beside it along the edge.
- Use two directions most of the time (say left and up), a third when you must, and the fourth only when nothing else moves.
- Keep the row your biggest tile sits in full, so a stray swipe can't pull it out of the corner.
- Join small tiles early: a board full of 2s and 4s fills up fast.
- Save your one undo for a real mistake, like a new tile landing in your corner.
Questions
- Is 2048 free?
- Yes. The daily board and Endless are free, with no account and nothing to download.
- Is the daily board the same for everyone?
- Yes. Everyone starts with the same two tiles, and each new tile depends only on the day and how many moves have been made, so the same moves give everyone the same board. That makes the scores fair to compare.
- What is the score to beat?
- It's what our own simple computer player scores on today's board, rounded down to the hundred. It plays steadily but not cleverly, so a careful player can beat it.
- Can I undo a move?
- Once per game. In the daily it's free once a day; in Endless it's free while Suvi is new. An undo can't change which tile comes next: making the same move again brings the same tile.
- What happens after I make 2048?
- You get a small celebration and a choice: finish there, or keep going for 4096 and beyond. Your score keeps counting either way.
- Can I play it on a computer?
- Yes. It works with the arrow keys or W, A, S and D, and with the mouse, as well as by touch on a phone or tablet.
