About Dominoes on Suvi
Dominoes is the tile game almost everyone learned at a kitchen table: match a number on one of your tiles to an open end of the line and lay it down. This is the draw game, the simplest and best known way to play. You each get seven tiles from a double-six set; if nothing fits, you draw from the boneyard until something does. The first to play their last tile wins the hand and scores the pips left in the other hand, and the first to 100 wins the game. On Suvi you can play dominoes free against the computer at three levels or with a friend on the same device or online. The tiles are big and drawn crisp, and the line turns at the edge of the screen instead of running off it. Nothing to download and no account needed.
How to play
- Choose vs Computer (Easy, Medium or Hard) or Two players, and who goes first. You each get seven tiles; the rest are the boneyard.
- The first player puts down any tile. After that, play a tile whose number matches one of the two open ends of the line.
- Tap a tile and the ends it fits light up, then tap a lit end (or drag the tile onto it). Doubles are laid across the line.
- Can't play? Tap Draw a tile until one fits. When only two tiles are left in the boneyard, you pass instead.
- Play all your tiles to win the hand and score the pips left in the other hand. If nobody can play, the lighter hand wins the difference. First to 100 wins.
Controls
On a phone or tablet: Tap a tile, then tap one of the lit ends of the line (or drag the tile there). Draw a tile and Pass appear when nothing fits.
On a desktop: Click a tile, then a lit end, or drag it there. Left and right arrows choose a tile, up and down choose an end, Enter plays, D draws, P passes, H asks for a hint.
Tips
- Get rid of your heavy tiles early: if the other player goes out, every pip you still hold is theirs.
- Keep a mix of numbers in your hand so you can follow whatever the ends become.
- Count what's been played. If five of the seven tiles with a 4 are on the table and you hold another, leaving a 4 open may leave your opponent stuck.
- Doubles are hard to place late in a hand, so lay them while their number is still open.
- Watch when your opponent draws: they had nothing for those two numbers, so leave those numbers open.
Questions
- What are the rules of dominoes?
- This is the draw game from a double-six set of 28 tiles. Each player takes seven; the rest are the boneyard. Match an open end with one of your tiles; if you can't, draw until you can, keeping the last two tiles back. The first out scores the pips left in the other hand; if the line is blocked, the lower hand scores the difference. First to 100 wins.
- What other dominoes games can I play?
- Fives and Threes, the English pub game, scores whenever the two ends of the line add up to a multiple of five or three, first to 61. Mexican Train uses a double-twelve set and gives every player their own train plus a shared one, over 13 rounds. Both have their own page here, with the same three ways to play.
- Can I play dominoes with a friend?
- Yes. Choose Two players to share one device: your tiles stay hidden, and a pass-the-device screen covers the table between turns until the next player taps. To play a friend on their own device, choose Online with a friend and send the link; each of you only ever sees your own tiles.
- How good is the computer?
- Easy plays any tile that fits. Medium plays its heaviest tiles first and keeps a spread of numbers. Hard counts the tiles: it remembers every number you couldn't match, works out which tiles you can still hold, and plays the move that does best when the rest of the hand is tried out many times, which often means blocking you.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Dominoes against the computer at Easy, Medium or Hard, a game for two on one device, and a game with a friend by invite link are all free, with no account and nothing to download. Your record at each level is kept on this device.
