About Hangman on Suvi
Hangman is the letter-guessing game everyone learned at school, made calm and friendly for your phone. Guess the hidden word or phrase one letter at a time; a right letter fills in every place it appears, and a wrong one adds a part to a simple drawing. Seven wrong letters and the game is over. Each day brings one word or phrase for everyone, with its category as your clue, from animals and food to proverbs and everyday sayings, so you can compare with friends. After that, practice as much as you like by category, or pass the device to a friend: one sets the word, the other guesses. Every word is an everyday one, checked by hand, with nothing rude and no names of people.
How to play
- Look at the category and the blanks: each blank is one letter, and the gaps split the words.
- Tap a letter on the keyboard. If it's in the answer, it fills in every place it appears.
- A wrong letter adds a part to the drawing. Seven wrong letters and the game is over, so start with common letters.
- Stuck? A hint shows one letter wherever it appears. Solve today's word to keep your streak going.
Controls
On a phone or tablet: Tap letters on the on-screen keyboard. Hint sits at the top beside the category.
On a desktop: Type letters on your keyboard, or click them on the screen.
Tips
- Start with the vowels E, A and O, then the common consonants T, N, S, R and L.
- Look at the shape: a short word on its own is often A, I, THE or AND, and a word ending in a blank after an apostrophe is often 'S or 'T.
- Use the category: a proverb usually has a familiar rhythm, so a few letters can bring the whole thing back.
- Letters like J, Q, X and Z are rare. Save them until the word is nearly there.
- A hint never costs you a wrong letter, so it's a good way out of a tight spot.
Questions
- Is the daily Hangman the same for everyone?
- Yes. There is one word or phrase a day, the same for every player, and it changes at midnight in your time zone. The share card shows how you did without giving the answer away.
- Can I play more than one?
- Yes. After today's word, practice as much as you like, any category or one you choose: animals, food and drink, jobs, countries, proverbs, sayings and more. Practice never touches your streak.
- Can two people play?
- Yes. Choose Two players: one of you types a word or phrase, which stays hidden, and passes the device to the other, who guesses it. Then swap. Nothing you type leaves the device.
- How many wrong guesses do I get?
- Seven. Each wrong letter adds one part to the drawing: the rope, the head, the body, two arms and two legs. Right letters cost nothing.
- How do hints work?
- A hint shows one letter wherever it appears in the answer, and never counts as a wrong guess. Your first hint each day is free, and while Suvi is new more are on us, with no ad to watch.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Hangman is free with no account and no download, and it runs in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
