About Nonogram on Suvi
The 15×15 nonogram is for when you have twenty minutes and want something to get into. More rows means longer clues and more places for a run to sit, so the ✕ marks earn their keep: every square you rule out narrows the next line down. Like every Suvi nonogram it has exactly one solution and never needs a guess. On a phone the squares are smaller, so dragging along a row is the quickest way to fill a run; on a computer the arrow keys and the space bar work too.
How to play
- Each number beside a row, or above a column, is a run of filled squares in that line, in order. A 3 2 means three filled squares, at least one gap, then two.
- Tap a square to fill it. Tap again to mark it with a ✕ (empty for sure), and again to clear it. Drag along a row or column to do the same to a line.
- Start with the lines whose numbers nearly fill them: in a row of 10, a clue of 8 must fill the middle six squares.
- Numbers fade as their runs are made. When every row and column matches its numbers, the picture is done.
Controls
On a phone or tablet: Tap a square to fill it, tap again for ✕, again to clear. Drag along a row or column to fill or mark a run. The Fill and Mark switch lets a tap mark ✕ instead.
On a desktop: Click to fill, right-click to mark ✕, and drag to do a whole run. Or use the arrow keys with Space (fill, then ✕), X to mark, Backspace to clear, U to undo and H for a hint.
Tips
- Add up a line's numbers plus one gap between each: if that comes close to the line's length, the overlap in the middle must be filled.
- Mark the squares you know are empty. A ✕ is as useful as a filled square for working out the next line.
- A 0 means the whole line is empty: mark it and move on.
- When a run touches the edge, you know exactly where it ends: put a ✕ just after it.
- Work back and forth between rows and columns: each square you settle helps the line that crosses it.
Questions
- What is a nonogram?
- A logic puzzle where the numbers beside each row and column tell you the runs of filled squares in that line. Solving it reveals a picture. They're also known as griddlers or paint-by-numbers logic puzzles.
- Is there only one answer?
- Yes. Every Suvi nonogram has exactly one solution, and our solver checks that it can be reached one line at a time without guessing, before the puzzle goes live.
- What happens if I fill a wrong square?
- With mistakes shown (the setting is on unless you turn it off), a square that should be empty is marked with a ✕ for you and counted as a mistake, and you carry on. Turn it off in the settings if you'd rather check your own work: a line that can't match its numbers then shows them in red.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Today's three puzzles are free every day, with a few extra puzzles to practice on. While Suvi is new, every past puzzle is open to everyone too.
- Can I play on a phone?
- Yes, it's built for phones first. The 5×5 and 10×10 have big squares; on the 15×15, dragging along a row is the easiest way to fill a run. It works with a mouse and keyboard too.
