Reversi for two players

Reversi for two people and one phone or tablet: pass it over between turns.

About Reversi on Suvi

This page opens straight into Reversi for two players on one device, the way the game is meant to be played: across the kitchen table, on the sofa or on a long train ride. Take turns placing a disc to trap and flip your opponent's; the board marks every square you can play, so nobody misses a move. Type your names if you like and the score keeps count across games; choose who goes first, or let the coin decide. Playing alone? The computer plays at three levels, and a friend far away can join by link.

How to play

  1. Choose vs Computer (Easy, Medium or Hard) or Two players, and who goes first.
  2. Tap a square marked with a dot. Your disc must trap one or more of your opponent's discs in a straight line between it and another of your discs.
  3. Every trapped disc, in every direction at once, flips to your colour.
  4. If you have no legal move, your turn is skipped and your opponent plays again.
  5. The game ends when neither player can move, usually with a full board. Most discs wins.

Controls

On a phone or tablet: Tap any square with a dot to place a disc. Undo and Hint sit under the board.

On a desktop: Click a dotted square, or move with the arrow keys and press Enter. U undoes, H asks for a hint.

Questions

Is Reversi free to play online?
Yes. Reversi is free in your browser against the computer at three levels, with two players on one phone, or with a friend online, and there's no account to make. Your record at each level is saved on this device.
Can I play against a friend?
Yes. Two players can share one phone, passing it after each move, with both names and the score at the top. To play someone on their own phone, choose Online with a friend and send them the invite link. You don't make an account; it asks once for your date of birth, and online play is for 13 and over.
How good is the computer?
Easy plays like a beginner and grabs whatever flips the most. Medium looks a few moves ahead and values corners. Hard thinks much further ahead and, once fourteen squares are left, works out the best possible finish exactly.
What happens if I can't move?
Your turn is skipped automatically and your opponent plays again; a note tells you when it happens. If neither player can move, the game ends and the discs are counted.
Who goes first?
You choose: you, your opponent, or random. Whoever moves first starts on the two diagonal squares of their colour in the centre.
Can I undo a move?
When you play the computer, yes: Undo takes back your move and its reply, flips included. In a two-player game every move stands, as it would on a real board.
