About Four in a Row on Suvi
This page opens straight into Four in a Row for two players on one device, the way the game is meant to be played: across the kitchen table, on the sofa or on a long train ride. Take turns dropping discs into the same grid; the glowing chip shows whose turn it is, and the first to line up four across, down or diagonally wins. Type your names if you like and the score keeps count across games; choose who goes first, or let the coin decide. Playing alone? The computer plays at three levels, and a friend far away can join by link.
How to play
- Choose vs Computer (Easy, Medium or Hard) or Two players, and who goes first.
- Tap a column to drop your disc. It falls to the lowest empty space.
- Line up four of your discs in a row: across, up and down, or diagonally.
- Block your opponent's lines before they reach four. A full board with no four is a draw.
Controls
On a phone or tablet: Tap a column to drop a disc, or press and slide along the top to aim, then let go. Undo and Hint sit under the board.
On a desktop: Click a column, or use the number keys 1–7. Arrow keys move the disc and Enter drops it; U undoes, H asks for a hint.
Tips
- The middle column is part of more lines than any other. Start there.
- Look for a move that makes two threats at once: your opponent can only block one.
- Before you drop, check the space just above it. Don't give your opponent a square to win on.
- Late in the game, count which threats will come due: the player who moved first wants threats on odd rows from the bottom, the second player on even rows.

Questions
- Can I play against a friend?
- Yes. Choose Two players and pass the phone between turns; you can type both names and the score for the session is kept at the top. To play a friend on their own phone, choose Online with a friend and send the invite link. There's no account to make: it asks once for your date of birth, and online play isn't open to under-13s.
- How good is the computer?
- Easy plays almost at random but never misses a win or a block. Medium looks about four moves ahead. Hard searches much deeper with a proper strategy, and most people need a few games to beat it.
- Can I undo a move?
- Against the computer, yes: Undo takes back your move and the computer's reply, as many times as you like. In a two-player game there's no undo, as on a real board.
- What does the hint do?
- It shows the move the Hard computer would play for you. One hint a game is free, and while Suvi is new a few more are on us, with no ad to watch.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Four in a Row costs nothing to play against the computer, with a friend on one phone or online by link, and there's no sign-up. Your results against each level of computer are saved on this device.
